1. Petroglyph National Monument

You’ll need 3-4 hours to explore all of the national histories at Petroglyph. There are many different trails to choose from, with the longest being just over 2 hours long. You’ll see some spectacular views overlooking the valley and Sandias en route (bring your camera!). And the incredible petroglyphs are scattered all over the area, which can make it a fun treasure hunt too. It’s a great way to get out of the city without travelling too far. Just make sure you bring your dessert boats because it gets sandy!

2. Sandia Peak Tramway

This tramway stretches from the northeast edge of Albuquerque to the Sandia Mountains. You will be on the tram for 30 minutes from one side to the other. The 360 views over Albuquerque from above will undoubtedly give you an unforgettable experience. And you will have a tour guide to information about the sights you’re seeing, the history of Albuquerque and answer any questions you might have. The staff that work on the tramway are always complimented on how attentive and friendly they are!

3. New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science

This museum was founded in 1986 and has become an integral part of Albuquerque’s history. There are lots of educational and interesting exhibits on display for everyone to enjoy. Particularly on dinosaurs/prehistoric wildlife of New Mexico. And there are hundreds of dinosaur bones on display. So as you can imagine, it’s a popular one for the kids.

4. Cliff’s Amusement Park

Cliff’s is a combination of an amusement and water park, so you get the best of both worlds. It’s suitable for all ages so it’s the perfect day out for families or friends. You can spend a whole day here and not run out of things to do, there’s lots of entertainment. And many restaurants and bars too!

5. Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum

This museum offers many different exhibitions on balloons. As well as lots of useful information on them, including the history, suitable balloon weather conditions and much more. It’s very educational! With many original artefacts from the 1800s & 1900s. And you can pay extra for a hot balloon ride to get the most out of your experience.

6. Cibola National Forest

This forest covers more than 1.6 million acres! So it’s safe to say, there are lots to explore. With four districts: Sandia Mountain, Apache Kid, Manzano Mountain and Withington. It’s great for camping, rock-climbing, wildlife spotting, trails and much more! With beautiful views from the top of the mountains. It’s oozing with natural beauty!

7. Rio Grande Nature Center State Park

This park is a very beautiful and peaceful place to visit. There are many different trails that you can take throughout the park. With many leading to the beautiful Rio Grande River! With many inside areas that you can bird and turtle watch. And inside these areas, there are lots of exhibitions with lots of interesting information about the wildlife too.

8. Sandia Crest

Sandia Crest offers spectacular 360 views for 80-100 miles overlooking Albuquerque Santa Fe and Rio Rancho. It’s about a 30-minute drive to the top, but of course, you can choose to hike too. It’s a tough hike but there will be no better feeling than making it to the top and taking in the views. Just make sure you’re prepared for the hike and bring everything you need with you.
